BELLADONNA is a storied private members’ club in the heart of glamorous Mayfair. Its clientele includes models, financiers, pop stars, tech moguls, Hollywood royalty and actual royalty. They’re drawn to Belladonna’s prestige and reputation for hedonism. And, of course, each other. Presiding over all is the club’s manager, CHARLIE GRANT. A suave American in his mid-thirties, Charlie has a dazzling smile and a shadowy past. He’s the guy who can charm his way out of any situation and make any unpleasantness go away. When scandal is brewing or a member kicks off, he’ll be there to joke, cajole, sympathise and threaten — whatever the moment demands. Forever sporting some achingly stylish suit, Charlie is the image of unruffled competence, a consummate player of the game. But behind this facade, he’s in serious trouble. While he enjoys the confidence of Belladonna’s imperious owner, LADY JENNIFER, Charlie is being blackmailed by a criminal syndicate. As a result, he allows them to conduct nefarious business within the club,targeting its ultra-wealthy membership. In the first episode, a member is found dead in the Belladonna swimming pool, forcing Charlie to contend with a police investigation that threatens to expose his own misdeeds. Increasingly pained by a long-suppressed conscience, he must manoeuvre like never before to get out from under the syndicate’s thumb. At the same time, we follow ADEOLA, a hard-nosed young waitress starting work at Belladonna. Over the course of the series, we learn that Adeola took the job with more than a salary in mind. Like Charlie, she is determined to escape difficult circumstances, and the pair soon form an unlikely alliance. THE CLUB plunges viewers into a world of opulence, intrigue and scandal, with a banging soundtrack and real-life celebrity cameos. At the same time, it’s a sharp commentary on our superficial, hyper-capitalist age.
